The summer transfer window always brings surprises and when things seem to be going one way they can end up going in a totally unthinkable direction. That could happen with our Liverpool in the coming days, as just when it seemed that the summer was not going as expected, news has emerged that could turn the situation around, as Liverpool's interest in signing Moises Caicedo has been reported and confirmed.
In the last hours it was confirmed that the Reds are very interested in winning the signing of the 21-year-old Ecuadorian defensive midfielder who still belongs to Brighton & Hove Albion, who has been strongly linked with a possible transfer to Chelsea, a club that has been trying for several weeks to finalize his signing, however they have not made an offer that satisfies the Seagulls who have set Caicedo's price at £100 million.
For their part, our Liverpool seemed to be totally focused on signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton, but his £50m price tag has seemed too high to the Anfield board and they have been unwilling to offer that amount to finalize his transfer. In addition, it was reported that with Brighton's refusal to lower Caicedo's price, Chelsea had also entered the race for Lavia which in turn would have triggered the Reds to go for the Ecuadorian.
However, many fans have wondered how Liverpool are trying to hijack Caicedo's transfer if they have not been able to pay the £50 million that Souhampton are asking for Romeo Lavia, and the reason is very simple.
According to journalist Paul Joyce, the reason Liverpool have been unwilling to pay the £50 million that Southampton are asking for Lavia is not because of a lack of funds but because they feel it is too much money for a player with so little experience and who is only a year older than Stefan Bajcetic. However, it should be remembered that the sales of Fabinho and Henderson left Liverpool with a profit of £52 million, so our club could well reach the £100 million mark that Brighton are asking for Moises Caicedo.
