The player leaving Qatar to join Liverpool straight away

Luis Diaz is one of 33 players Jurgen Klopp will take to Dubai for pre-season training ahead of the resumption of competition in late December after the break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Colombian striker, who has four goals and two assists in 12 appearances for Liverpool this season, has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Oct. 9.

The Colombian is expected to be ready to return to training at the Emirates. Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo, also injured, are included in the travelling party, although the latter two will not yet be available to the manager and will simply be given a change of scenery in their rehabilitation.

Liverpool will play friendlies against Olympique Lyon and Milan in Dubai before returning to England to face Manchester City in the fourth round of the League Cup on 22 December. With the Merseyside club having only seven players at the World Cup, Klopp will have most of the squad available, including Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, Thiago Alcantara and Roberto Firmino.

Darwin Nunez, who was eliminated in the group stage with Uruguay, will join the squad next week, with Dubai just a short flight from Qatar. The Uruguay national team did everything it could to qualify for the last 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. With the win over Ghana in the bag, the Charrúas were going through as runners-up in their group. However, South Korea pulled off the upset and beat Portugal, eliminating Uruguay.

Nunez is the first World Cup player to report to Liverpool

This left the South Americans heartbroken that the referee did not award a penalty for their team. During the 57th minute, Darwin Nunez had a great chance to make it 3-0. A Ghanaian player prevented this by fouling him in the box. Daniel Siebert ignored the claims and did not award the penalty.
