After a disappointing season, Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff reportedly decided to restructure the team's squad, and to do so they signed several players in the transfer market. Almost immediately, when the 2022-2023 season ended, the top priority was Alexis Mac Allister, whom the board managed to sign in a matter of a couple of weeks.
Mac Allister's arrival would bring with it the arrival of other players, according to what was reported in various media, but so far Liverpool have not been able to finalize their second signing. Despite this, there are several candidates who, as the days go by, are getting closer and closer to Anfield, and it seems that now it will only be a matter of time before the second reinforcement of this transfer window becomes official.
One of the big candidates, and apparently one of Jürgen Klopp's new priorities, would be the 22-year-old French midfielder Khéphren Thuram, who has surprised many with his great performances in Ligue 1 with his current team Nice. Several weeks ago, Liverpool showed interest in him and began to approach the French club's board of directors, who apparently would be willing to sell their player.
However, everything seems to indicate that the negotiations have not been easy, as Liverpool's interest in Thuram would have increased the cost of the player in the eyes of Nice. Although Liverpool are not in a financial crisis, they cannot afford to spend all their resources on a single player and that would have been an impediment to reach an agreement with Nice, but the latest reports claim that both clubs have finally reached an agreement.
According to journalist Rudy Galletti, the Liverpool board and the Nice board have already reached an agreement on the transfer price of Khéphren Thuram. The amount to be paid would be between 40 and 45 million euros, and apparently there would be no problem regarding the player's contract with the Reds.
