By now we know that FC Barcelona are resigned to Frenkie de Jong, as the Dutchman has not only managed to convince Xavi, partly due to the poor form of Sergio Busquets, which will make him an essential part of the Barcelona set-up, but he is also the club's most important asset in the market; in other words, with last summer's spending and the Champions League drop, Barça need to sell him, they need to bring in money.
And in the face of all this, De Jong has refused to leave the Camp Nou... at least so far, because Jürgen Klopp can set himself up as the saviour of Joan Laporta's failed plan. As yesterday's Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu (3-1 in favour of Madrid, the new LaLiga leaders) showed, De Jong is not only crucial because of Busquets' poor form, who could leave in June, but he is also an essential footballing resource, being the only player who can act as an organiser, playmaker and dyke in the backline.
Roy Keane complained about one of Klopp's favourite players, no one believes what he said
Mohamed Salah provoked anger from Liverpool legend
Yes, Busquets is the archetypal Blaugrana in those occupations, but he falters, and if the Dutchman does, it is Xavi's unchallenged element. So we come to a critical moment in Barça's season, with results pressing and De Jong defying the president and the club, but, at the same time, being Barça's great hope for income and a fixture in the present eleven for his manager.
However, with Barça willing to activate the fifth lever to save the season, Liverpool, with Klopp at the helm, could be the solution to Barça's De Jong headache. Sport reports that the Anfield side are in the middle of the operation that Manchester United are trying to carry out, for now if they are lucky (De Jong himself rejected the proposal in the summer).
And we know that for De Jong, one English team is not the same as the other, so now, if Liverpool really go for the midfielder in January (winter market), Barça can finally see feasible what they are looking for: to get money for the sale of Frenkie De Jong and get rid of a salary problem. In this respect, the Reds' proposal would be very concrete: 52 million pounds sterling, around 60 million.
