Each professional and official match has a general background, which includes all the trophies played during a certain period of time. In the case of Liverpool facing Chelsea, it started in the 1907/1908 season with a Premier League game that concluded 4-1 for the Blues away. Since that beginning, 192 matches have passed.
The six different competitions in which both English clubs played against each other are the following: the mentioned league, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and League Cup. Obviously, by the format, a large number of matches took place in Premier League, 160 to be exact.
In the UEFA Champions League, 10 matches have played between 2004 to 2009 in the group phase, quarter-final, and semifinal. Besides, the UEFA Super Cup had only one episode in 2019; the same scenario for the Community Shield, which united them in 2006.
Moreover, nine times both clubs faced the League Cup between 1977 and 2022, including one second round, two finals, two semi-finals, two quarter-finals, and two third round. Furthermore, in the FA Cup was played 12 games between 1931 and 2022, including two finals, one semi-final, two round of sixteen, one quarter-final, three third round, and two fourth round.
In the six mentioned competitions, the Blues lead in UEFA Champions League (3-2), in the FA Cup (7-4), and in the League Cup (4-3). In addition, in the UEFA Super Cup, the result was a draw 2-2. However, both in Community Shield and Premier League, the history is different: Liverpool commands both trophies, especially in the first one, where the Reds won 70 games, lost 51, and draw 39. In the 193 matches, Klopp’s team defeated Chelsea 80 times and lost 65 games with 48 draws.
