Neither Liverpool nor Thiago Alcántara are having the best season in their history. The English club are currently eighth in the Premiership standings, 12 points behind leaders Arsenal. This is unusual in recent seasons, when Klopp's team reigned supreme. This new and dangerous situation is bringing out the critics. One of them has focused on Thiago. The Spanish midfielder has been accused of suffering "freak injuries". Glen Johnson, while praising his football, does not understand how every so often he has an ailment without much explanation.

"Thiago is great when he plays and you wish he could play every week," the former England international told Midnite.com, "He should be fit for every game every week because he's that kind of player who walks and doesn't run. He shouldn't have so many muscle injuries, what I mean by that is Thiago doesn't get injured in a game. He's that kind of player who walks around and doesn't run."

"Thiago has some strange injuries and misses games for strange reasons, but he can't be replaced, he just needs to go out and play." Just that same week the Spain international was dropped from the squad at the last minute due to a sudden health problem. "Thiago had a serious ear infection last night. There was no chance for him to do anything. We took him home. The decision was made at 5.15am. He woke up in the middle of the night and had the problem. They went to the hospital. However, it didn't work. Yes, he was in so much pain that he had to go to hospital," the German coach admitted.

"Thiago has some strange injuries and misses games for strange reasons." It's not the first. The former Bayern man has only been available for five of 13 Premier League games this season. He started against Fulham and then suffered a muscle injury in the next five. Two more he was out without really knowing the injury. After a positive run of games, he was again absent against Forest at the weekend.

Thiago has played little because of his constant injuries

In the Champions League, however, he has missed none. At 31, he is waiting to see if he finally makes Luis Enrique's final squad for the World Cup in Qatar. It could be his last World Cup. We'll see if injuries respect him. Thiago has made five Premier League appearances out of eleven for Liverpool and has started two of them. He played 51 minutes in the first game against Fulham and missed the next five matches, before returning to play almost all of them in the last few league games with the exception of this last one, when he was sidelined at the last minute.
