The sports psychologist who worked with Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez at Benfica in Portugal long before he went to play for Liverpool in England, Evandro Mota, who was also a motivational consultant in the technical teams of Jorge Jesus, the player's coach, spoke to Four Four Two magazine about the Uruguayan.

"When an athlete has the guts to admit he needs help, he is much easier to work with. That's Darwin, a young man more mature than his age with an open mind and willing to listen to the right people, critics. We suggest he isolate himself from the environment that has been hurting him," she said.

She added: "Darwin is a kid who demands a lot of himself and who realised that social media stuff would only bring him down. He's already overcome a lot in life and this episode made him an even better professional. That's what makes him a real gemstone not only in terms of technical quality but also in terms of intelligence."

Former assistant coach Jorge Jesus also highlighted Darwin's humble side: "His arrival at Benfica was a totally different culture, it impressed me," he said: "Something I will never forget and that I immediately said to Jorge Jesus about Darwin was that he accepted that he still had a lot to learn and continue to gain experience, a 21-year-old.

'Darwin Núñez is a very mature boy'

"I have worked with some of the most talented footballers in the last 40 years, you know how many times I have seen a young man be so mature and humble at that age even after fulfilling his dream of helping his parents buy a house, just a couple of times," he maintained, guaranteeing no doubt that Darwin will take advantage of the opportunities at Liverpool.
