A year ago, after 19 Premiership games, Mohamed Salah had scored 15 goals and was on course to win the Golden Boot for the third time in his career (he did it in 2017-18, with 32 goals; in 2018-19, with 22, shared with Sadio Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; and in 2021-22, with 23, shared with Son Heung-min). A stratospheric distance behind the Egyptian star of Liverpool (Real Madrid's opponents in the last 16 of the Champions League) is Erling Haaland's 25 goals. Ahead of Salah are Harry Kane's 16, Ivan Toney's 13, Aleksandar Mitrovic's 11, Rodrigo's 10, Miguel Almiron and Marcus Rashford's nine, Martin Odegaard's eight.
On this, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp accepted that Mohamed Salah is suffering in attack: "Of course he is suffering, it's a specific, attacking game, it requires a lot of work and a lot of information. It was a well-coached machine the front three, it was all clear what we were doing." In addition, Klopp said his departure from Liverpool, if the owners do not sack him, will be until the end of his contract in 2026.
