As the Premier League came to a halt for September's FIFA World Cup break, centre-back and Slovakia international Martin Škrtel returned to his Anfield home after his 2016 move from Turkish club Fenerbahce for a charity match between Liverpool FC legends and bitter rivals Manchester United, which ended 2-1 in favour of the Reds.

Škrtel once again took the lead in the Reds' central defence in a memorable moment for the fans who were reminded of those glorious afternoons when the Slovakian defended the Liverpool FC shirt. But there was a key moment in the game for the 37-year-old, when in an unfortunate collision with Frazier Campbell, causing him to leave the field early.

The second-half action caused excitement among the fans, who cheered and applauded the defender off the pitch, labelling the header a heroic act, where Škrtel has always put the club before himself. Mohamed Sissoko replaced Škrtel, and the game ended in a 2-1 victory with goals from Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle.

After Škrtel's substitution, more social media began to catch fire with praise for the former Italy Atalanta player, with some users mentioning the courage and bravery that the former Liverpool FC star still has: "Martin Škrtel is still a warrior", "Martin Škrtel will always remain a fighter and a great warrior", "It was crazy to see him contest that header. Škrtel is a warrior," they commented on Twitter.

Liverpool FC fans were amazed by the red carpet of legends who returned to Anfield, such as Dudek, Vignal, Sissoko, Voronin, Xabi Alonso, among others who once again put on the Red's shirt to win a derby against Manchester United and through the LFC Foundation support Fans Supporting Foodbanks.
