Our Liverpool has had a good start to the Premier League season, after three games played we have 2 wins and 1 draw, this despite the fact that the team is not yet at its best level and also Jürgen Klopp considers that the squad is not yet complete, so the future for this season begins to look very promising.

However, we cannot ignore that there are still major weaknesses in the team, which is why Jürgen Klopp wants the board to be able to sign at least a couple more players before the summer transfer window closes, and one of those weaknesses is the defense and not because the two starting defenders are bad, but because the team needs more depth and room to maneuver when situations like the one that happened in the last game against Newcastle and that could leave us without Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté for at least one game.

That is why, in the search for a new central defender, our Liverpool has been linked with at least a couple of players who are supposedly of interest to Jürgen Klopp, and for whom there could be an offer in the coming hours.

One of the defenders who, according to the French newspaper L'Equipe, is of interest to Liverpool, is the 23-year-old Belgian Arthur Theate, who plays for Rennes in the French league and is valued at 22 million euros according to the Transfermarkt portal. However, it seems that Liverpool could offer one of their players as a bargaining chip to secure his signing.

Exchange for Arthur Theate?

According to L'Equipe itself, Rennes are preparing for a possible departure of Arthur Theate this summer in the face of interest from several teams including Liverpool, and one of those possible replacements for Theate would be none other than Joel Matip. In that sense, if true, we will see if the Anfield board would be willing to offer him as a bargaining chip to lower Theate's cost.
