However, it seems that Liverpool could offer one of their players as a bargaining chip to secure his signing.

Exchange for Arthur Theate?

According to L'Equipe itself, Rennes are preparing for a possible departure of Arthur Theate this summer in the face of interest from several teams including Liverpool, and one of those possible replacements for Theate would be none other than Joel Matip. In that sense, if true, we will see if the Anfield board would be willing to offer him as a bargaining chip to lower Theate's cost.
