Mohamed Salah remains one of the most talented players in the Premier League and one of Liverpool's star players. But he has struggled so far this season, with two goals scored and two assists in six games. Although in the Merseyside Derby against Everton he did not score and only got 60% of his passes right.
At 30 years of age, the African attacker is in his fifth year at Liverpool and in that time he has played 260 games and scored 159 goals. He was also Champions League champion in 2019 and lifted the Premier League trophy in 2020 being the best player of the tournament. His most productive campaign was in 2017-2018 when he scored 32 goals and provided ten assists.
The Merseyside derby at Goodison Park featured a performance no one expected
Injury curse leaves Liverpool with seven players out of action
With the departure of Senegalese striker Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich in the summer for a fee of 32 million euros, Salah was left as the man in charge of the Reds' attack. Although Uruguayan rookie Darwin Núñez arrived as a reinforcement from Liga NOS side Benfica, the Egyptian remains the most important man up front for coach Jürgen Klopp. At the start of this campaign he has delivered two goals, one against Fulham and the other in the derby against Manchester United.
Salah's performances have been up and down as he was the team's best performer on Thursday with two assists as the Reds beat Newcastle at Anfield with the agonising goal scored by Portuguese rookie Fabio Carvalho. But in the Merseyside Derby against Everton on Saturday, he was a bit-part player, sharing the attack with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, who returned from a three-match suspension.
Mo only touched the ball with 44 passes and only 65% of his passes were correct. In front of goal, he had three shots and one on target that hit the post in the 91st minute which could have been Liverpool's winning goal at Goodison Park. On Wednesday in the Champions League match against Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium he will have another chance to show his brilliance.
