Scousers to support Trent Alexander Arnold and Jordan Henderson at the World Cup

The 22nd edition of the World Cup is just around the corner. The opening match on Sunday between hosts Qatar and surprise package Ecuador, who had a tremendous World Cup qualifying campaign in CONMEBOL, finishing fourth. Sadio Mané's Senegal (out through injury) and Virgil van Dijk's Netherlands round out Group A, which will meet the qualifiers from Sector B, which includes England, Iran, Wales and the United States.

The English national team comes into the tournament with a 56-year drought of not having won the World Cup. In 1966 and as hosts, the "Three Lions" embroidered what is their only star on their shield. We can go on listing the dark episodes where we have meddled, but in the end, society itself is free to make its own judgement, and in the freedom we have on the Big Island, it allows each of us to express our feelings, whether we support Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson, or the whole national team, football should be about celebration and togetherness. England kick off on Monday when they take on Iran in Group B matchday 1 action.
