Mohamed Salah is on a personal high at the moment, and after a hat-trick in Glasgow in Liverpool's 7-1 thrashing of Rangers, the Pharaoh was at it again, this time to give the Reds a win over Manchester City in what was the Premier League match and surprise of the week.
In the 76th minute Mo Salah scored his 11th goal of the term in all competitions, including the Community Shield, Champions League, Premier League and national team. The former AS Roma and Fiorentina man's form rebounded after recent comments and criticisms of him by former players. The comments were about the poor play and lack of concentration that led to Salah's failure to complete games for a while.
Liverpool legend blasts refereeing in win over Manchester City
Firmino has already made a decision on his future, Klopp in disbelief
The Egyptian's quality should come as no surprise to anyone, and in his fifth season as a Liverpool player he has joined a select group of superstars who are leading world football as the best goal scorers and assisters of the current 2022-2023 season. Salah is currently in fifth place with 11 goals and four assists, behind only Lewandowski, Messi, Neymar and Haaland.
The Liverpool striker has overtaken the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Marcus Thuram and Kylian Mbappé in this list. Salah, who signed a contract extension until 2025, finished last season with 23 goals in the EPL and also shared the Premier League golden boot with Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min.
The season ahead for Mo Salah will help Liverpool FC who have not had a good start to the domestic season, currently in 8th place outside of the European competition. The departure of Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich affected the Reds attack and fractured the magic trident formed by Roberto Firmino, who won in 2019 the sixth UEFA Champions League. So Salah is now the leader of Klopp's new project for this year.
