The Brazilian is at his best every time he comes up against the Citizen team

While Manchester City presented Erling Haaland as their best player in the match against Liverpool, the Merseyside side did not want to be left behind and placed Roberto Firmino as their most outstanding player on the pitch, as the Brazil international has experience against the Citizen team having scored against them on several occasions and in different competitions.

For the 2022-2023 season, the Brazilian striker has had a major resurgence in what appears to be his final season with the Merseyside outfit, as Firmino's eight goals and five assists have largely been scored during October, with the Reds striker averaging a goal every 43.4 minutes and so far being the most effective player on the team, ahead of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez's stats.

Jürgen Klopp fails Liverpool fans after broken promise

While the Cityzens would like to make Haaland the Anfield institution's new tormentor, at the moment it is still Phil Foden who holds that title, having scored against them four of the five (six) times he has played against them so far. With the same amount of goals but a greater number of games, Firmino is the one who has Manchester City in his sights, with the Brazilian trying to keep his goalscoring stats up this October as well as breaking a long streak of almost three years without scoring against them.

The Reds striker is looking to continue that positive run in front of goal this football year, seeing City as that good luck charm after what happened in the 2017-2018 season, as after netting a brace against Pepe Guardiola's side, Roberto Fimrino concluded his Liverpool involvement by scoring 30 times, a career high.

Although Jürgen Klopp has found in Firmino the most feasible solution to the team's poor form, the Brazilian international may not always be the one to save his teammates and his manager from a bad display, for just as a mistake by Thiago Alcántara ended up costing them the three points against Arsenal, the lack of attacking efficiency produced by Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez may mean that the home 9 may not shine at times.
