After Mohamed Salah had a difficult start to the season with Liverpool, the Egypt international has been doing everything he can to get back to his best physical and footballing form, but as the games have gone by he has found himself with a series of ups and downs that seem to be disappearing after the good display he gave in the second week of October where he played a key role in Liverpool's two victories.

As the Egyptian striker was the architect of a record-breaking hat-trick against Rangers in the Champions League, many would have thought that it was the motivation of his achievement that made him give a rounded match against Manchester City that ended with him scoring for three Premier League points, but the reality is that the success of the "Pharaoh" is due at least psychologically, to an amulet that accompanied him in the Anfield dressing room.

In his worst season for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has already surpassed a Reds legend

The 30-year-old's latest goal was directly linked to Dejan Lovren, a former Liverpool player who, during his six-year spell at Anfield, struck up a close friendship with Mohamed Salah. The Croatian international, who currently plays for Zenit St Petersburg, took to Instagram to reveal the Egyptian's secret that gives him the "motivation" to achieve his goals.

Lovren showed in a photo how Salah keeps a cushion in the dressing room with the Croatian's face as decoration on it, being one of the good luck charms that according to the Croatian's words helped the Liverpool player. While superstition, lucky charms and footballing curses are a daily occurrence for footballers, this kind of motivation Salah allegedly has with his former teammate and friend's cushion is a bit curious.

Perhaps Mohamed Salah will have to keep putting his cushion-shaped amulet in his dressing room space more often so that he can continue to contribute goals and assists to a Liverpool side that has struggled this season, for while this has been something of a joke between friends and ex-teammates, the Egyptian did have a good game against England's remaining runners-up.
