The Dutch striker turned down an offer from United and accepted the challenge of playing at Anfield

The Eindhoven club announced on Monday that they have reached an agreement with the Anfield outfit over the striker's move to the Reds. Gakpo will travel to England to finalise the details of the deal before it is announced, but the agreement is complete on all sides.

Gakpo has definitely exploded at the World Cup. After his excellent start to the season with PSV, where he has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 19 games, the 23-year-old Dutch striker is more than ready to make the big breakthrough. And Manchester United wanted to sign him, just as they did their compatriot Memphis. But in the end, he has come to Liverpool.

The current Barcelona player, on the other hand, swapped Eindhoven for Manchester when he was 21, as his breakthrough season came earlier. Also the star of the team, he scored 22 goals in the Eredivisie in 14/15, taking the title of top scorer in the competition and attracting the attention of the best clubs on the continent.

At the time, the 'red devils' paid 30 million for the future star. Today, they will have to raise the offer to convince PSV, who have already stated that Gakpo's sale has to be a record one. All indications are that the figure will not be less than 50.

It was Van Gaal who recruited Memphis for his Old Trafford project and now it will be the turn of Erik Ten Hag, also a former Ajax coach, to convince one of the most promising players in world football. Although, as the Mirror claims, the work has already been done and personal terms have already been agreed.
