Player who left Anfield humiliated but loves Liverpool fans

The atmosphere at Anfield before and during Liverpool's matches will captivate anyone. Even the players who leave with a defeat, such is the case of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, who could do nothing to prevent his side's defeat to the Reds last week. But he was impressed by the thrust and roar of the Reds fans, who create an atmosphere unique in European and world football.

'Before the game, when we walked into the stadium for our warm-up, it was so quiet. No booing or anything. I expected it would be really crowded and the mood against us. But I felt nothing at all. We came back in before the game and I talked to Riyad Mahrez as well. He was sitting right next to me. I was like, ‘Is it always like this here? Everybody talks so highly of Anfield and I don’t really see it’, he explained in an interview.

Just a week ago Liverpool looked to be showing significant signs of life as they took Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League season away from them, but on Saturday they were unable to confirm that momentum as they fell to bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest. In a game that was almost entirely dominated by the Reds, they simply could not convert the chances they created against the historic side that only recently returned to the top flight.

The statistics showed 76 per cent possession for Jürgen Klopp's side, but they were unable to make it count as they failed to score a single goal. During the first half, there were no goals.
