Ryan Gravenberch became the fourth signing for the Reds this season, following Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai. The Dutchman arrived from Bayern Munich for £40m and signed a five-year contract at Anfield.
Confidence in this player is so high that Klopp wanted to have him on board as soon as possible. However, he couldn't be registered in time. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old midfielder was available and able to train without any issues at the AXA Training Centre on Saturday.
Nonetheless, not everything might be good news. At the moment, without having qualified for the Champions League, the Merseyside team will compete in the Europa League, where they were placed in Group E with LASK, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, and Toulouse.
Nevertheless, Ryan Gravenberch's signing has brought problems to the team regarding the Europa League final list. According to official reports, teams have until tomorrow at 23:59 PM to submit their list of 25 players who will participate in the tournament. However, a first-team player could be left out due to Gravenberch.
Clearly, this situation is not in Gravenberch's hands. But it could directly affect his 17-year-old teammate, Ben Doak, leaving him out of the Europa League list. According to UEFA rules and Liverpool Echo, the final list of 25 is divided into two: List A allows the registration of 17 overseas players. While List B allows the last 8 spots to be filled with players under-21s players as long as they were born during or after January 2002 and have played for the club in a two year uninterrupted period since the age of 15 while being registered with UEFA. Clearly, neither Gravenberch nor Doak are eligible to enter List B, so both would have to be registered in List A. However, the other problem is that there is only 1 spot remaining out of 17 in the list of overseas players, so Liverpool has to decide whether to register Ryan Gravenberch or Ben Doak.
