The Premier League's most eye-catching game takes place at the Etihad on Saturday

On Saturday 25 November, Spanish manager Pep Guardiola's Manchester City took on German manager Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool in the 13th Premier League fixture of the season at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens were on a winning streak in all competitions, top of the Premier League with 28 points and also top of the Champions League table with 12 points (they have already qualified for the last 16).

While the Reds have been in good form, they have won three and drawn two of their last five Premier League games. Although they sometimes fail to seal the game with a favourable result, their level of football this season is improving compared to how they finished last season. In this season's table they are second with 27 points.

Guardiola's side are coming from a 4-4 draw away to Chelsea in the previous round of the Premier League, their first draw in the English league, in which they also have nine wins and two defeats. Klopp's side are coming off a 3-0 win over Brentford in the last Premier League fixture, their eighth win in the competition, while they have three draws and one defeat to their name.

The defensive error

It was in the 27th minute that the first goal of the game fell to Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who took advantage of a cross from Ake after an unfortunate mistake by Alisson to clear the ball. It was the fault of the whole defence though as Trent Alexander Arnold did not press properly and Virgil Van Dijk was slow to cover Haaland.
