At last the international break is over and several Liverpool players were involved with good numbers, for example Darwin Nunez who scored three goals and was top scorer in the South American qualifiers or Mohamed Salah who scored goals for Egypt in Africa. But there was one player who also stood out and could start Saturday's game against Manchester City.
Uruguay's national team remained top of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup with a 3-0 win over Bolivia in Montevideo on Tuesday in the sixth matchday, and celebrated the return of all-time leading scorer Luis Suarez. Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez scored twice for Uruguay in the 15th and 71st minutes and the other goal was an own goal by Bolivia's Gabriel Villamil in the 39th minute. The win took Uruguay's tally to 13 points and left them top of the South American qualifying standings, pending the outcome of the Brazil-Argentina match.
Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian footballer who plays for Liverpool, had a dangerous moment playing for his national team against Sierra Leone in Paynesville, a town in the African country of Liberia. Towards the end of the World Cup qualifier, a pitch invasion took place and two spectators in particular tried to attack the number 10.
But another Liverpool player who stood out during this break is Harvey Elliot with the England youth team, especially in the match against Northern Ireland at Goodison Park, very close to Anfield, where he scored a free-kick that reminded me of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The midfielder could start against Manchester City if manager Jurgen Klopp chooses and he did not travel as far as the South Americans.
