On 13 October, the Estádio Municipal de Portimão (Portugal) hosted a friendly match between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. The match, which ended in a 2-2 draw, was closely watched by scouts from Premier League giants Liverpool. According to The Sun, the English club's scouts travelled to Portugal to follow the progress of a player who is very much to the liking of the coaching staff, the African Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old striker, who started the game, was forced to withdraw after around 58 minutes due to physical discomfort.

Although it was not, therefore, the best day to test the striker, the Reds still believe that with his accumulated experience and the talent he has been showing at Napoli (he has 65 goals and 15 assists in 111 games), the Lagos native could prove to be a more than ideal reinforcement for the attack. What's more, he is seen at Anfield Road as the perfect heir apparent to Mohamed Salah, who looks increasingly close to a move away from the club. Should Liverpool move for him, they will have to overcome tough negotiations with a Celtic side who have always placed their valuation of their winger at well over €100m, and leave behind competition from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Liverpool have set their sights on Napoli's star striker Victor Osimhen in an effort to address their goalscoring woes this season. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Blues have been keeping a close eye on the Nigerian attacker and are ready to push for his signature in the winter transfer window. Osimhen, 24, joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 after an outstanding season with LOSC Lille. Since his arrival in Serie A, the striker has been a prominent force in world football and has established himself as one of the top goalscorers.

The value of Osimhen

Napoli are aware of the interest generated by Osimhen, but are not willing to give in easily. The Italian club have set a £140m price tag for the Nigerian striker, reflecting their determination to keep the player in their ranks. Liverpool, meanwhile, are among the clubs interested in Osimhen. The Reds have been linked with the striker for some time and could try to sign him in the winter transfer window, although Napoli are reluctant to let him go mid-season.
