Luka Modric led Croatia to third place in what was probably the midfielder's last World Cup appearance

Luka Modric led Croatia to third place in what was probably the midfielder's last World Cup appearance. The runners-up from four years ago secured another medal by beating Morocco 2-1 in the third-place match on Saturday. Mislav Orsic scored the decisive goal just before halftime at the Khalifa International Stadium to ensure Modric finished on a winning note, should this prove to be his last World Cup match.

At the age of 37, that seems likely, even if there is hope he will lead his country at the 2024 European Championships. Josko Gvardiol put Croatia ahead in the seventh minute, but Achraf Dari equalised in the ninth. After becoming the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals, Morocco's tournament ended with two defeats. But then, the team's achievements in Qatar will be remembered for the outpouring of pride among Arab nations.

Liverpool's ability to successfully apply their work in practise to a game satisfied by this star

After these stars suffered injuries, Liverpool is now in "serious danger."

The match ended 2-1 in favour of the team led by Zlatko Dalic, thanks to a goal from a set-piece and a goal from Mislav Orsic at a key moment, when the African team pressed hardest and put pressure on Dominik Livakovic's goal in the first half of the match played at the Grand Khalifa International Stadium.

The Croatians with a serious game and with their best players on the field, beat Morocco, the surprise of this World Cup, and despite losing their last two matches, they leave the World Cup with an honourable and worthy fourth place, when no one even bet on them getting past the Group Stage. The World Cup final between defending champions France and Argentina is scheduled for Sunday at Lusail Stadium.

Everyone wants to be close to Modric

One of the most striking images after the match was that Croatia's players came to congratulate and take pictures with Luka Modric, showing the respect and idolatry they have for him. The situation was in contrast to what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo, who after being eliminated from the World Cup by Morocco, left in tears and no teammate came to comfort him.
