After their Champions League exit and as they try to secure their Premier League title , Liverpool is already starting to think about next season. The European summer transfer window is just around the corner, and the Reds could be facing some crucial moves.
Among the most notable potential transfers, Mohamed Salah 's contract expires this season. Darwin Núñez is also up for sale, and there's a good chance he'll end his time at Anfield Road midway through this year.
In that context, Michael Owen gave his opinion on Liverpool's future and proposed two reinforcements to replace the aforementioned forwards should they leave the English club after this season. The historic England striker put the names of Alexander Isak and Antoine Semenyo on the table .
“I mean, if you say Mo Salah and Darwin Núñez left and Alexandr Isak and Antoine Semenyo came in, then I don't think it's the worst swap deal in the world,” Owen explained in comments shared by the Mirror. He added: “But realistically, Liverpool want to keep their best players, and Mo Salah is their best player, so I hope he doesn't leave.”
On Isak, the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United player said: “It would be an incredible move if Liverpool could get him, but I'm sure practically every team wants him and I'm sure Newcastle are desperate to keep him, so it would be interesting.”
"I like Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth, who plays in the same position as Salah. I like him; he's a younger version, but he definitely has energy, goalscoring ability, and is a good player. That said, there's no substitute for Mo Salah," he clarified about the Ghanaian national team player.
Darwin Núñez defines his future
After Liverpool's huge investment to lure him from Benfica, the English club is looking to recoup its funds by offering the Uruguayan to other European giants. Europe has confirmed that the Reds are exploring alternatives to sell him, which is why they offered him to Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Another option for the Uruguayan is the Saudi Professional League, a destination that would facilitate Liverpool's financial situation, but which must appeal to Núñez on a personal level
