Despite scoring three goals during the 120 minutes as well as getting it right in the penalty shootout, Mbappé was left wanting to be world champion. Argentina ended up winning the match on penalties and now Mbappé will have to make a decision on his future with Liverpool always an option.
Liverpool, unlike Real Madrid, have indeed reopened negotiations to try to sign Kylian Mbappé after his desire to leave the Parisian club as soon as possible. According to 'Le Parisien', the English club are the favourites to land the French striker provided PSG open the door to a sale by letting the player go. Liverpool would be willing to pay a transfer fee of around €150m for Mbappé but would only be able to afford the deal at the end of the season during the summer transfer window.
Given that Jürgen Klopp is not likely to support the team, the issue of a contract is raised
Liverpool has expressed interest in Brighton's top midfielder
Mbappé has already asked to leave PSG and wants to leave as soon as possible but his contract and PSG's demands make it virtually impossible to fulfil his wishes. The Parisian club seems to be starting to get fed up with the player's demands and would open the doors to him, but only if they can make a profit. From France there is talk of a price of 300 million euros for his sale, an impossible figure for any European club as, in addition, they would have to assume the player's multi-million euro fee.
Mbappé is currently the highest paid player in the world after last summer's renewal. Liverpool have been in contact with Mbappé's entourage and believe the time is right to sign him provided the financial conditions are right. Mbappé would have to take a pay cut to join a more reliable project in terms of sport and it seems that he is ready to do so.
From there, a transfer deal should be agreed at a maximum figure of 150 million. Liverpool were in the bidding to sign Mbappé last summer until the very last moment. The striker saw him as a very good sporting option but eventually opted to renew and also turned down a Madrid side who now seem unwilling to bid for him after their walkout a few months ago.
