Global shock with just days to go before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. Sadio Mané, Senegal's star striker, asked to be substituted 20 minutes into the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, setting off alarm bells ahead of his participation in the world's greatest football event.
Although at first it seemed that the injury had been minor, the French newspaper L'Equipe and AS of Spain reported that the Senegalese striker would miss the World Cup because of a major "tendon" ailment that would require several weeks of recovery, which would prevent him from representing his country of origin in the Middle East.

"It's a blow for the Senegalese national team. Sadio Mané will not play in the World Cup", published the traditional French newspaper, which was in charge of providing the first information about the loss of the man who is a star and who was key to his national team in winning the African Cup of Nations for the Lions of Teranga.
Amid speculation, it was finally Bayern Munich who issued an official statement: "Sadio Mané has suffered an injury to the head of his right fibula. He is out of the match against Schalke. Further tests will be carried out in the coming days, and Bayern are in contact with the medical team of the Senegalese Football Association".
If you were to make a dream team of the stars who won't be in Qatar, Mohamed Salah, Firmino and now Mané would undoubtedly top it. Senegal's national team, led by former player Aliou Cisse, will be one of the first national teams to make their debut at the World Cup in Qatar. They kick off on the second day of action on 21 November against Group A contenders the Netherlands. They will play their second match on Friday 25 against hosts Qatar and will close the group stage on Tuesday 29 against Gustavo Alfaro's Ecuador.
