Football remains in shock after news that Sadio Mané will not play in Qatar

The aroma of the 22nd FIFA World Cup has begun to permeate the globe, where the top 32 teams are battling for a place at the Grand Final, to be played on 18 December in Doha. Some wanting to repeat, others hoping to embroider their first star on their shields and the rest looking forward to their first World Cup experience.

As usual, Liverpool FC has representatives at this tournament, the best players in the world are here to help their national teams achieve their goals. But there are also great loves who, despite no longer being in the Red's ranks, will continue to support each other wherever they are and hope that one day they will return home. Such is the case of Senegal's Sadio Mané, who will not play in the World Cup.

Mané, who suffered a knee injury a few weeks ago in a Bundesliga game with his club Bayer Munich against Werder Bremen that ended in a 6-1 thrashing, set off alarm bells with his national team, who went to great lengths to have him ready, and even turned to witch doctors who could do little for the former Reds star, who was preparing to add his second World Cup in his professional career.

Sadio recently broke his silence and spoke through his official accounts, where he posted a message to his teammates. "The surgery went well. I'm sure the Lions will transcend and approach every game as a real final. I am convinced that my team-mates will fight like men to honour our beloved Senegal," said the 30-year-old striker.

Senegal are in Group A of the World Cup, where they share the stage with hosts Qatar, the Netherlands and Ecuador, with the latter leading the competition by winning the opening match 2-0 against the Qataris. The Lions will have a tough test when they take on favourites Netherlands, who boast in their ranks Red's superstar Virgil van Dijk, who comes into this tournament missing his friend Sadio, who he was looking forward to facing in the tournament.
