Liverpool have taken just two points from their opening three Premier League games, with draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, followed by a defeat to Manchester United last Monday night. This weekend's meeting at Anfield against AFC Bournemouth is a chance for Jurgen Klopp's side to get their first Premier League win.
Luis Diaz reflected on how difficult the game against Manchester United was and what must come after that defeat: "We knew beforehand that it was going to be a difficult game. We were aware of the rivalry between the two clubs and we knew we had a big task ahead of us. It didn't go our way on the day," said Diaz of the trip to Old Trafford.
"We know that now we just have to do our job and train hard, get plenty of rest and wait for the next game, in which we hope we can accumulate some points and start the season well," he added. The Colombian has started each of Liverpool's four competitive games so far in 2022-23, with Mohamed Salah also a regular on the opposite side of the attack.
Diaz's first goal of the new season was a superb individual effort that rescued a point against Palace at Anfield last week. After being reduced to 10 men by Darwin Nunez's dismissal, Diaz raced down the left flank, beat five opponents and fired into the top corner. The No23 acknowledged the importance of getting his name on the scoresheet as often as possible.
"I would like to thank God for scoring that goal. It helped us get that big point, a very important point for us, so I was very excited to score it. I think it's important to be available to take these chances and score. The fans, from the beginning, have had a lot of passion, respect and love for me. I felt it straight away. I can feel that they are the best fans out there," he commented.
