Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Uruguay international Darwin Núñez will retain his starting spot for Sunday’s Premier League clash against West Ham, despite mounting pressure from fans and the local media.
The former Benfica striker has faced criticism for his inconsistent performances since his big-money move to Anfield. Fans have been vocal on social media, expressing their disappointment with Núñez's lack of clinical finishing and decision-making in front of goal.
However, Slot has shown faith in the 24-year-old, believing that Núñez's raw talent and potential make him an invaluable asset to the team. The Dutch manager has been working closely with Núñez on the training ground, aiming to help the striker improve his all-round game.
“Darwin is a very talented player, and we all believe in him,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference. “He’s working hard to improve his game, and I’m confident that he will start scoring more goals. It’s important for us to be patient with him.”
Núñez will be looking to silence his critics with a strong performance against West Ham. A goal against the Hammers could be just what the striker needs to regain his confidence and get back on track.
