Luis Díaz was the most important player for Colombia in the victory over Brazil at the Metropolitano stadium and will surely start against Paraguay in the sixth match of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The Colombian is becoming the great figure, the most valuable player of the Tricolor team so far in this qualifying phase, playing all the matches against Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador and Brazil.
The Liverpool winger comes into the match against the Guaraníes with a lot of confidence after scoring two goals against the Brazilians and being able to end the drought so far in the qualifiers. His last goal for Colombia had come in the friendly against Germany on 20 June 2023. However, Luis Fernando Diaz must be careful in the clash against the Paraguayans as he is under suspension and could miss the next World Cup qualifier if he is cautioned at the Defensores del Chaco stadium.
The 26-year-old was shown the yellow card in the match against Chile and cannot see another card because he would have to pay a one-day ban for the match against Peru. The other three cautioned are defenders Yerson Mosquera, Carlos Cuesta and striker Jorge Carrascal. The next Qualifying match will be 2024 after two friendlies that Colombia has on the calendar against Venezuela and Mexico. That match will be away at the Estadio Nacional in Lima on 4 September.
While this situation could cause concern for the Colombian national team, it would calm Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp because if he receives a sanction it would mean he cannot play in the next Colombian squad and would prevent him from making the long trip and concentrating on Liverpool.
