Determined to improve their midfield, Manchester United have set their sights on Roméo Lavia, a young Belgian midfielder who plays for Southampton. The player is also on the radar of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United continue to work on their new project. After bringing in goalkeeper André Onana (from Inter Milan) and midfielder Mason Mount (Chelsea), the English side are now a step closer to completing the signing of Rasmus Hojlund, a Danish striker who will leave Atalanta to strengthen the Red Devils' front line.

Once this deal is completed, the club will then focus their efforts on bringing in a midfielder. According to The Independent, although they have been in contact with Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina), the English club are not ruling out a move for highly-rated youngster Roméo Lavia.

The Belgian, who is just 19 years old, plays for Southampton, who have just been relegated, but who have already made it clear that they will not make a big offer for their player. In fact, his high price (between 50 and 60 M€) is the big handicap facing United, who, to be able to launch their nets, should first lighten the squad and give exit to players like Brandon Williams, Donny van der Beek, Fred, Scott McTominay or even Harry Maguire.

Liverpool go for Lavia

However, journalist James Pearce has reported in the last few hours that Liverpool will make a third bid for Romeo Lavia, approaching the 58 million that Southampton are asking for him, in order to keep him and leave Manchester United with no chance.
