Liverpool player who apologised to fans for team's dismal performance

Ibrahima Konaté's ordeal is over. Liverpool's French centre-back has been able to train again with his team-mates on the pitch after two months out injured. He even played a part in the heavy 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The last time he was on the pitch was on 31 July, during a pre-season friendly against Strasbourg, where he picked up a knee injury.

Now, the centre-back is back under the command of Jürgen Klopp, and it is possible that he could be available for the Champions League game against Rangers in Scotland on Wednesday.  It is worth remembering that Konaté did not play a major role during last season in the Premier League.

By contrast, in the Champions League he was virtually unchallenged at the back, starting eight of the thirteen games (including the final against Real Madrid). At Anfield they are waiting for him with open arms. As a kid, I knew Liverpool was a big club, but I didn't imagine it like this. It's way above my expectations in every way. There are fans all over the world and they are really respectful. When you eat with your family, they leave you and wait to take the picture. It's nice.

The game will be away and I know the stadium has a very good atmosphere, but we play football for that and we have to do a very good result to qualify'.

He said to me: "The day you sign for Liverpool, it will not be the same for you, your life will change. Wherever you travel in the world, you will see for yourself what I am telling you. In my head I was thinking: "OK, fine, it's an incredible club with a sick history, but it's quiet.
