Tunisia beat France as World Cup group stage draws to a close

A France side full of substitutes lost 1-0 to Tunisia in Doha on Wednesday, a defeat that did not prevent reigning world champions Les Bleus from topping Group D, where Australia also qualified for the last 16 with a 1-0 win over Denmark in Qatar 2022.

Tunisia bowed out of the World Cup with a prestigious victory, thanks to a solitary goal from captain Wahbi Khazri (58), and four points, while France and Australia, tied on six points but with a better goal difference for the French (+3 to -1), are already awaiting their opponents in the last 16. Denmark, one of the disappointments of the World Cup, are out of the tournament with just one point.

Klopp wants France player overshadowing Mbappé at World Cup

The goal was scored by Wahbi Khazri (Montpellier striker born in France) in the 13th minute of the second half. France, already top of Group D, had decided to leave many of their star players on the bench. Mbappé, Griezman and goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris did not make the starting eleven. The match had been well handled by the Tunisians who had come close to the goal defended by Stade Rennais F.C. goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

But it was not a victory far from suffering: in the eighth minute of the second half, star Anthony Griezman scored an agonising goal to tie the game, but it was disallowed by VAR intervention. In the other group match, Australia beat Denmark 1-0 to qualify as group runners-up. France will now have to wait to see which team finishes second in Group C, which is shared by Argentina, Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool want Rabiot

On the bench for the match was Adrien Rabiot, who according to reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jürgen Klopp's side are keeping an eye on Adrien Rabiot (27). The midfielder, who is currently at Juventus, has the option of a free transfer in 2023. A chance they can take advantage of at Anfield. his cost would be around 20 million.
