Liverpool must speed up 2023 plan with mega signing to avoid falling behind

It's not just fans, pundits and former players who believe the Reds should make a major signing this month.

Several journalists claim Liverpool should bring forward their plan to sign a player this month, rather than wait until 2023, to avoid falling behind Manchester City. Jude Bellingham is one of the Reds' closest targets, but they are unlikely to make a move until next summer, despite the immediate need for the England star.

They drew their opening two games of the Premier League season against Fulham and Crystal Palace and are four points behind defending champions Manchester City. Despite this, Jürgen Klopp has made no assurances over whether he will sign a midfielder, even before Thiago Alcántara picked up a hamstring injury on matchday one, he indicated they were not in on the possibility.

Bellingham, 19, would be the perfect signing and Liverpool must do all they can to seal a deal before the window closes. "It's been a difficult start for them. I thought Fulham were excellent in the first game, chased them down and made it difficult for them," the specialists commented.

Bellingham is nearing 100 appearances for Borussia Dortmund after signing in 2020 from Birmingham. Some want him to have another year at Dortmund, which is understandable because he has done so well there and is learning the game. It looks like he will eventually go to Liverpool, but apparently the need is immediate.
