While one of the greatest joys a fan can have every four years is to see their players represent their national team at a World Cup, this 2022 edition at least at Anfield was not, with Jurgen Klopp's side suffering countless injuries and fans themselves not wanting coaches to start their players in order to avoid potential misfortune on the pitch.

After a great debut of the French national team that beat Australia 4-1, the team led by Didider Deschamps decided to make some adjustments to his starting eleven to face Denmark, focusing mainly on the defensive sector where he decided to do without Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez and the Liverpool man, Ibrahima Konaté.

The least happy with the changes made by coach Deschamps were undoubtedly the French, who see Denmark as the most evenly matched game of their group stage. While the Gauls have dismissed as negative the substitution of Konate in favour of Raphael Varane as a central defender, Liverpool fans applauded the decision, as they are more interested in the World Cup than in the way he returns to Premier League activities in the last fortnight of December.

It is worth remembering that not long ago Konaté left Liverpool due to various knee problems, causing his place to be constantly taken by Joe Gomez, an English defender who has not been to the total liking of the fans by demonstrating multiple shortcomings when it comes to protecting his area, compromising on more than one occasion the result of his team, as happened with the first goal against Leeds or the penalty against West Ham that almost ended up costing them a draw.

Gomez's recent displays against Southampton in the PL and Derby County in the Carabao Cup were not the most impressive, making his inefficiency the reason why Reds fans are clamouring for a central defensive pairing of Van Dijk and Konate once the English competition resumes, not caring if they do not see action for their national team during their stay in Qatar.
