Liverpool fans make Roy Keane's return to Anfield unforgettable

Roy Keane was back in the boots for Saturday's charity match at Anfield. He was also returning to the scene of his last game for the Red Devils, when he was injured against Liverpool at Anfield in October 2005, a month before leaving the club. However, the 51-year-old Sky Sports pundit turned down the chance to take the armband when Keane shoved Johnsen.

The LFCTV commentator said the act was "the most Roy Keane thing ever". The 51-year-old will represent the Manchester United legends in this weekend's derby against Liverpool as they look to continue raising funds for local communities. The first leg, which took place four months ago at Old Trafford, ended 3-1 in favour of the Merseyside outfit, but the Red Devils will be expected to try to overturn the series on Saturday at Anfield.

Interestingly, the last time Keane wore the club's shirt was at this very stadium, when he suffered an injury in a 0-0 draw with Liverpool back in September 2005. After playing one season at Celtic, the Irishman announced his retirement from professional football before becoming manager of Ipswich Town and Sunderland. Roy now works as a panellist and commentator on sports programmes in England.

With 15 minutes left in the game, and the score tied at 1-1, Keane entered the fray alongside his former Republic of Ireland and Man United teammate Denis Irwin. Predictably, the home fans at Anfield booed the former Red Devils midfielder as he made his way onto the pitch.

Johnsen, who played alongside Keane in Alex Ferguson's treble-winning side in 1999, kindly offered the armband to the Irishman. Keane captained Man United between 1997 and 2005 and skippered the team during its most successful period. This weekend, Manchester United fans will have the chance to see the former player again at Anfield.
