Liverpool suffered their first Premier League defeat since December, with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford putting Manchester United 2-0 up. Mohamed Salah headed in to give the visitors hope but they were unable to equalise down the stretch.
After the defeat, German manager Jurgen Klopp spoke about his emotions from the game: "Emotions? We lost. I think that says it all about the emotions I was expecting. That's about it. Very disappointed with the result," he commented.
Asked by reporters if he was concerned about Liverpool's "attitude", the Reds boss said it's not a question that should be asked because both games, against Fulham and ManU, the difference couldn't have been bigger. Perhaps the surprise was in Erik Ten Hag's changes, which were more attacking and purposeful.
According to the German coach, he liked tonight's game, the line-up, especially the performances of some players, while accepting that they were not good enough to win the game, but believes that if it had been a draw, there would not be so much talk about the standings, which now puts them in 16th place.
"(It was) a deserved draw after a start where United looked smarter than us, but that wasn't too long and in the situation I think a bit to wait. In a home game, can you imagine if they hadn't fought from the first second today? It would have been an interesting situation," he said.
"So our situation is what it is. It's not perfect, but it's good enough to play better tonight, and I think our situation is good enough to have won the game tonight if we had played a little bit better," Klopp added.
