The Reds and the Culés are planning a negotiation

Joan Laporta is still trying to find a way out of Memphis Depay. The striker is not in Xavi Hernandez's plans and his departure in the last transfer window was not possible, so he remains a priority for 2023. The Dutchman's contract expires next June and, although he has several suitors in the Premier League and La Liga Santander, he has yet to make a decision and is not in advanced talks with any team.

In view of this situation, Laporta has taken the lead in the negotiations and has offered Liverpool his contract to make an exchange with Roberto Firmino after the World Cup in Qatar, as reported by the portal fichajes.net. Neither Laporta nor Depay are interested in extending his contract, as he has become a regular substitute with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. Everything pointed to him leaving for Juventus in the summer, and there was even talk of an agreement, but negotiations were put on hold due to the player's financial demands.

At Barça he does not fit into Xavi's plans, so the board is already working to find a destination for him. The club have given the green light to his departure to Sevilla, with whom he would begin talks in the winter, once the World Cup is over. He has also been linked with Tottenham, who would be willing to pay 35 million euros for his fee. Now Laporta has looked favourably on the possibility of an exchange with Liverpool, as he does not trust that other clubs show their interest but no firm offers are forthcoming.

He has therefore considered a swap deal with Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino, an operation that would be beneficial for both clubs. The Brazilian also ends his contract with the Reds next summer and a renewal looks increasingly complicated. According to the aforementioned source, his departure appears to be imminent right now. Firmino is eyeing a move away from Anfield to sign for another European giants.

Both players are interested in leaving their teams, so it does not seem complicated for all parties to reach an agreement to close the deal. Neither Barça nor Liverpool would get or have to put any money on the table to close the deal. In addition, Xavi would welcome the addition of Firmino, as he considers him a good option for reinforcement due to his mobility and technique. Laporta hopes to be able to close the deal next winter, once the World Cup in Qatar is over, although everything will depend on the decision made by both players.
