Liverpool plays Leicester tonight at Anfield to close out a spectacular 2022 in front of their home crowd. The fact that Jurgen Klopp's team has advanced to the championship round of every cup competition in which they have participated over the past 12 months may help to explain their season's poor start.

There is definitely a sense of progress, especially now that many of their players are rested from the World Cup. It would be foolhardy to write off Liverpool in the battle for the top four despite their mediocre start to the season; another three points would leave them only two back of fourth-place Tottenham.
