Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr on a two-year contract, Saudi state broadcaster al-Ekhbariya reported on its website on Friday, and minutes later it was confirmed by the club itself on social media. Ronaldo, 37, left Premier League giants Manchester United last month after a television interview in which he said he felt betrayed by the club and did not respect their manager, Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

The striker represented Portugal in Qatar, where he became the first player to score in five World Cups after netting a penalty in his team's opening Group H match against Ghana. Portugal were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Morocco. Ronaldo said Qatar would probably be his last World Cup as he plans to retire at the age of 40, with a move to Saudi Arabia likely to mark the last phase of the career of one of the best players today.

Jurgen Klopp's reaction to Pele's death a surprise

"I can't wait to discover a new football championship in a different country," said Cristiano Ronaldo, quoted on his new club's Twitter account and posing in his new yellow and blue shirt decorated with his customary number 7. "The vision of Al Nassr is very inspiring and I am happy to join my teammates so that together we can help the team achieve more success," the Portuguese star said.

According to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, the contract would run until June 2025 with an annual salary of around 200 million euros per year, including commercial agreements. Ronaldo had been without a club since the termination of his contract with Manchester United at the end of November. CR7 boasts a spectacular record, with five Ballon d'Ors, five European Champions League titles (2008, 2014, 2016, 2016, 2017, 2018), Italian championship titles with Juventus (2019, 2020, Spanish with Real Madrid (2012, 2017) and English titles with Manchester United (2007, 2008, 2009).

Klopp indifferent

While there is no public reaction from the Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp reacted to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo Saudi Arabia, with sources saying the German coach was surprised as he believed the Portuguese could have one last season in the Premier League.
