With a 3-1 win over Southampton, Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool side left the Premier League with a better feeling and seven points (with a game in hand) clear of the Champions League places. However, the truth is that the resumption of the competition after the World Cup will be tough for the Reds, especially in European competition, where they will have to face Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid.
That is why Klopp, in order to face the second half of the season with more guarantees, has hinted that Liverpool will turn to the winter transfer market with the aim of further reinforcing an already very competitive squad. In this sense, the entry of new investors to the club, as we told you in Don Balón, will be key to be able to fulfil some of the wishes of the German coach in January, among which the incorporations of a goalkeeper and a striker stand out.
Klopp taunts Barcelona, ready to steal this signing from them
Neither Alisson nor Salah, Klopp says this is Liverpool's best player
In fact, it was Jürgen Klopp himself who, in statements to the press, hinted that Liverpool will sign a goalkeeper and a striker: "There is nothing decided about what we will do in the winter. We have to study it, we have time and we follow the market every day. There is no player who scores goals and we don't know him. If someone makes good saves we also know him. That's the situation, and that's what will happen, that's clear," he said.
As far as more specific names are concerned, reports from England indicate that in the case of goalkeeper, the great favourite to compete with Alisson in goal for the Reds is Brighton's Spanish international Robert Sánchez, while up front there are several names that have appeared, including Cody Gakpo, from PSV, and Youssoufa Moukoko, from Borussia Dortmund. These additions would certainly increase the competitive level of Liverpool, who, let us remember, will be Real Madrid's opponents in the Champions League.
In this way, the Reds' decision to turn to the winter transfer window is bad news for the team coached by Carlo Ancelotti, as they will see how their rivals will strengthen their squad with the clear objective of knocking Real Madrid out of the top European competition.
