The 2023-2024 season is getting closer and, for our Liverpool, it will start with a clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League match. We are less than two weeks away from that game and it seems that our Liverpool team is not yet complete, as Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield board are looking to sign at least one more midfielder, although it has been reported that the ideal scenario would be to bring in two midfielders and a defender.
However, it seems that the top priority is a midfielder, more specifically, a defensive midfielder. And the fact is that after the unexpected departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, the team has been left without a reliable pivot for Jürgen Klopp, because although there is Stefan Bajcetic, the season will be long and it would be very unfair to put all that responsibility on his shoulders, but it is a scenario that is worth taking into consideration.
As of today it seems that Klopp's priority has a name and surname and it is Romeo Lavia, the Southampton defensive midfielder who has all Liverpool fans on edge, as various reports claim that it is only a matter of time before his arrival is made official, while there is information that Southampton will not lower their economic pretension of £50 million, which could pull down the negotiations. However, Lavia is only one of at least four players who are in Klopp's sights to reinforce that area of the field this summer.
As previously mecnioned, Romeo Lavia appears to be the number one option. In addition to him, Klopp has his eye on Fluminense's André Trindade, who would have to be convinced to let him leave midway through the Copa Libertadores knockout round. Another is Cheick Doucouré, who belongs to Crystal Palace and for whom they could ask between £40 and 50 million. Finally, the other option is Joao Palinha, who has just signed a contract extension with Fulham, which includes a contract termination of approximately 60 million euros. All of them are Liverpool's leading candidates to reinforce the midfield, according to Mail Sport.
