Mané has not recovered from injury and will not play at Qatar World Cup

He made the squad, and there was even speculation that witch doctors would be used for his recovery. Despite this, Sadio Mané has lost the race against time: he will not be in Qatar 2022. Although his call-up gave cause for optimism, the decision has finally been taken to leave out the leader and best player of the Africans.

This World Cup was his second participation, a reward for his excellent 2021/2022 season in which he came close to winning four titles with Liverpool (only Real Madrid and Manchester City could beat them) and achieved two tremendous goals with his national team: winning the African Cup and qualifying for the aforementioned World Cup. Although the end of the tunnel seemed to be in sight with regard to absences due to physical ailments at the World Cup, Sadio Mané is, for the moment, the biggest injury absentee from the tournament.

Bayern Munich striker Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the entire Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Senegalese Football Federation said on Thursday. Mane made Senegal's 26-man squad despite picking up an injury in the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen, in which he suffered a knee tendon problem, but it has now emerged that he will not be available to coach Aliou Cisse.

"Unfortunately, the MRI scan today (Thursday) shows that the evolution is not as favourable as we imagined and unfortunately we have decided to declare Sadio out for the World Cup," said national team doctor Manuel Afonso, as quoted on Senegal's Twitter account. It is a crucial loss for the African team. Mane is their star player, as demonstrated in the last continental championship, in which he led the Lions of Teranga to the title. Second in the Ballon d'Or won by France's Karim Benzema, he was to lead the team, which is drawn in Group A alongside the Netherlands, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.

Klopp dismayed

According to local media reports, the news that Sadio Mané is out of the World Cup has left Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp saddened, as he holds him in high regard. Therefore, he hopes he can return to the field soon to continue to show his good football and help Liverpool win several titles.
