"They are both out. That's how blunt Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was when asked about Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota, both injured at the Etihad Stadium, at the press conference ahead of Thursday's Europa League clash with minnows LASK at Anfield.
"Ali is a little bit less, we have to keep an eye on him. But he won't play tomorrow or Sunday or, probably, the following week," confirmed the 'Red' coach. So it will be Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher who will be in goal against the Austrian side, as planned, as well as in the Premier League games against Fulham (Sunday 3 December) and Sheffield United, just three days later. “Alisson will not play tomorrow, Sunday or, probably, the following week.” More serious seems to be Jota. "Diogo will be a bit longer, I don't know exactly how long. We have to see," continued Klopp, who already had Andy Robertson and Thiago Alcantara out.
The Portuguese winger, who turns 27 next Monday, had missed just one game in the current Premiership, and that was through suspension. In the remaining 12 games he had racked up eight starts, the last five in a row, and four goals. Fortunately, Klopp has a wide attacking arsenal at his disposal, with players such as Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.
Jota's injuries: Season 20/21: 23 games missed (95 days) Season 21/22: 4 games missed (14 days) Season 22/23: 29 games missed (147 days) Season 23/24: Out from now until the New Year at least… At Wolves: Season 18/19: 14 games missed (71 days) Season 19/20: 12 games missed (49 days) How unlucky is Diogo with injuries...
