At the express request of German manager Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's board have tightened their grip on Austrian Konrad Laimer. The midfielder is out of contract at RB Leipzig next summer. As he enters the final stretch of his contract at RB Leipzig, Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer has already become one of the biggest rumour-mongers. In recent weeks, the media have linked him with several teams who would be interested in recruiting him without having to pay any euro for his transfer.

Among his suitors, along with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, Liverpool stand out. According to Sky Germany, the Reds have been keeping a close eye on this midfielder who is completely to Jürgen Klopp's liking. In fact, it is the German coach's insistence that has prompted the Anfield Road outfit to consider a move in a short space of time.

Recruited by die roten bullen in the summer of 2017 (in exchange for €7m), the central European has so far amassed a total of 167 official appearances (11 goals and 18 assists) for the German outfit. He has also established himself as one of the mainstays of the Austrian senior national team (24 caps, two goals).

Last summer, Bayern were already close to recruiting him, but the firm attitude of his club prevented a deal that the player would have welcomed. "I'm thinking about the here and now, even though one of the best clubs in the world doesn't come knocking on the door every summer. If you think too much, you lose sight of the most important thing," he admitted in September.

Laimer is injured

Konrad Laimer has been sidelined for a long time at the start of the season with an ankle ligament injury, but that has not deterred Liverpool's interest, even if they do not know in what condition he could arrive at Anfield next January. Liverpool have had a serious problem in midfield for several seasons now, just since the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, they do not have a midfielder capable of supporting the defence and attacking in equal measure.
