Saudi Arabia caused a surprise at the Qatar World Cup by defeating Argentina 2-1 in the opening match of Group C activity. In the match, midfielder Enzo Fernandez came on in the 52nd minute for the South Americans to replace Leandro Paredes. Fernandez has been linked with Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp was amazed by his ability, but would need to spend around 125 million to sign him.
Enzo Fernandez has quickly adapted to European football and in his first few months at Benfica he is making waves. In the last few hours the English channel Sky Sports reported that Liverpool have him in their sights for the next few transfer windows. The midfielder left River in exchange for 18 million euros for 75 percent of the pass and arrived in Europe just two months ago. With a handful of games he has shown his very good level and is on the radar of the Argentine national team for the upcoming friendlies.
Frenkie De Jong to Liverpool, Fabinho in doubt, Klopp determined
Klopp demands player who shone for England against Iran, will be paid 5m, is not Bellingham
Sky Sports published an article on their website in which they analyse Liverpool's lack of variants in midfield. Coach Jürgen Klopp is not happy with the situation, although he is close to signing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. Enzo Fernandez has become one of the sensations of European football since his arrival from River Plate. The Argentinian is a key player for Benfica, who are top of Liga NOS and have qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League (where they will face Club Brugge).
His name has started to be strongly rumoured by several major European clubs ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have all shown interest in acquiring his services in the short term. But they know that the operation will be far from simple. Among the players who interested and still interest the German coach are Enzo Fernandez, Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich), Nicolo Barella (Inter) and Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona). "Liverpool kept an eye on Enzo Fernandez, who swapped River Plate for Benfica to continue his development," Sky Sports reported.
Liverpool are close to signing Bellingham for 100 million euros, which would make the chance of adding Enzo Fernandez in the short term not very viable. However, the Reds know that the Argentine's buy-out clause is 120 million euros. River, on the other hand, are smiling: they keep 25 per cent of a future sale.
