Milner is 36 years old and could soon retire, leaving a significant gap in the Reds' squad

According to Italian newspaper Calcio Mercato, Liverpool intend to crack the winter transfer window after the Qatar 2022 World Cup and one of their main targets is Marcos Llorente. The 27-year-old Spanish midfielder is one of Jürgen Klopp's long-held desires for the Reds' midfield.

He was in awe of him when they met in the UEFA Champions League and feels he is an ideal fit for his style of play plus the club's need to revamp their midfield. Marcos Llorente's contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer of 2027 and his asking price is said to be around 40 million euros, given that his level has dropped substantially in recent seasons.

Liverpool would be willing to put that amount of money on the table in order to close his signing in the winter transfer window. Liverpool are not very interested in selling him, but the club's financial situation will force them to sell a star player in the short term and the Spaniard fits the bill. Everything will depend on the evolution of the market after the World Cup.

Marcos Llorente is one of the players most likely to leave Atlético de Madrid next summer, given that the 26-year-old Spanish international's performance has dropped so significantly that the red-and-white side are already considering the possibility of recouping the 50 million euro investment made at the time for the then Real Madrid player, which has not turned out to be as good as expected.

However, the team coached by the Argentine Diego Pablo Simeone would not accept the departure of Marcos Llorente at any price, letting the midfielder leave as long as a club is willing to pay 120 million euros, this being the only demand that the red and white team is making to let one of their most valuable players leave, which would be an important lingreso of a good amount of millions with which to strengthen the squad for next season, and try to give another air to this sporting project.
