Morocco will contest the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history after beating Portugal thanks to a solitary En Nesyri goal. The Sevilla striker scored with a header just before half-time and his side held on to their lead until the final whistle to become the first African side to reach the last four of a World Cup final.

The Portuguese, who started without Cristiano Ronaldo, had plenty of chances to equalise but came up against an immense Bono, again a saviour for his side, and even the sticks. Morocco are a team from whom little was expected, but thanks to a dynamic brand of football full of talent, they won their group thanks to their stars, one of them being Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat.

Reports from England reveal that Liverpool have set their sights on Amrabat, who has been a huge part of coach Walid Regragui's scheme and has spoken highly of the midfielder. "Trust me, Amrabat is a world-class player. He is a 'key' player in my plans," the Moroccan coach told the media a few days ago. "I expect him to move to one of the major European clubs after the World Cup", Regragui added.

Those words reached the ears of head coach Jürgen Klopp, who, during the World Cup celebrations, has marvelled at the level and potential of Amrabat, who dominated the midfield and humbled Real Madrid superstar Luka Modrić in the matchday 1 clash against Croatia. The game ended in a draw and was key to the Africans' progress to the Round of 16, winning Group F with seven points.

Sofyan Amrabat costs 10 million

The Sofyan's mental ability could give Liverpool a wider view of the pitch, making him a great attacking partner for Mo Salah, who would have more attacking power with the arrival of another African at Anfield. Amrabat's €1.5 million-a-year fee of €10 million would not be an obstacle for Klopp, as the imminent departures of OX and Keita would make a significant space for the 26-year-old, who also has Dutch ancestry.
