Once again our former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has given a lot to talk about due to his most recent interview he gave to The Athletic, where he spoke about many topics that have generated divided opinions among Anfield fans.

Something that was talked about during the summer, when Al-Ettifaq's interest in signing the 33-year-old midfielder arose, was why Henderson had decided to accept the Saudi club's offer, as it was reported that Jürgen Klopp was still counting on him to face the 2023-2024 season, as according to various reports Henderson was still considered by Klopp as an important piece of the team and the first captain.

After that, there was speculation that Jordan Henderson had been seduced by the huge amounts of money that the Saudi Pro League offers players to convince them to leave European football, but Henderson himself has stated that in his case it was not so and that it was even a decision that was thought, among other aspects, in a sporting matter. "I want to play. I don't want to be sitting on the bench and coming on for 10 minutes in games. And I knew that would have an effect on my chances of playing for England," he said.

However, something that made a huge impact on Henderson's statements in the aforementioned interview with The Athletic was that he felt that no one at the club wanted him to stay.

Did Klopp want Henderson to leave?

Jordan Henderson's words will give much food for thought, as the former club capitpan said that no one approached him to tell him not to leave, otherwise he would have stayed at Anfield. "If one of those people (Klopp or FSG) said to me, "Now we want you to stay", then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Now, that's not to say that they forced me out of the club, but at no point did I feel wanted by the club or anyone to stay." he said.
