Fulham's resounding 3-0 defeat against Aston Villa brought with it Steven Gerrard's sacking. A sacking that has provoked a huge outpouring of reactions in the Premier League. The most expected, however, was that of Jürgen Klopp. Gerrard is in pole position as a possible replacement on the day the former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund boss decides to leave Anfield.

Klopp was at his most sympathetic: 'We had a little chat this morning. I'm sure he will recover soon. I understand it might be disappointing for him because of the ambitions he had with Aston Villa, but I don't think we should worry. He knows what football is like and that these things happen. I am sure he will recover soon. I understand it can be disappointing for Gerrard because of the ambitions he had with Aston Villa.

The Liverpool manager did, however, allow himself a little piece of advice for Gerrard: 'He should take a bit of time for himself. Since he stopped playing he has been involved in different processes all the time. Maybe he needs to stop and recharge his batteries. We all take knocks. A lot of great managers left their clubs for different reasons. The key is how you respond and Gerrard will be back at 100 per cent, no doubt,' Klopp insisted.

Liverpool are coming off the back of back-to-back league wins after a poor start to the campaign. For Klopp, it will be important to keep that momentum going against a Nottingham Forest side who are bottom of the table. "A lot of things are clear. The atmosphere will be exceptional, I'm sure. When we played them last time, they were full of confidence, they were really flying and we felt it. They were a well-coached team, which they still are, but at that point almost all the pieces fell into place," he commented.

"This season is different but that makes it even more difficult because now the mood will be 100 per cent, they will fight for everything, they want to change their situation and that's what we have to understand," he completed. This will be a difficult game for the Reds if they want to get into the top places in the Premier League and maintain the good run of recent days.
