Liverpool FC have finally had a long week since the resumption of football in England after the break following the 22nd FIFA World Cup. With a break for the EFL Cup and an early FA Cup game, Klopp used the break to create a decent starting XI that can beat Brighton Hove Albion, who are the Reds' closest challengers in the Premier League table; 28 and 27 points respectively.
Klopp knows full well that they must win at Brighton, as the time for dropping points is over and they are slipping away from the top places in the English Premier League. It is not easy for the German to put together a line-up when important players are injured, such as Dutchman Virgil van Dijk who, unfortunately, will be back until mid-February with a hamstring injury.
The player Klopp misses more than Sadio Mané and who would have Liverpool in the title race
With this, Klopp has to make use of what he has available, although he will also have to make room in the salary cap to have a reserve and be able to sign players in this transfer market that started with the important addition of the Oranje gem Cody Gakpo, who already made his debut and had his first minutes against Wolverhampton. With Gakpo at 100 per cent Klopp has another weapon in attack after the low level of Darwin Núñez.
But this is not what has given Klopp a headache, it is what he will do with Naby Keïta, who has returned to training alongside his teammates, after it transpired that he and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have expressed to Klopp their intention to leave in June when their contracts with the Reds expire, and that if an offer for them arrives in January, they will accept it.
In such a situation Jürgen Klopp would take the decision to give them the green light and let them go, and even the latest reports from England suggest that both already have offers in other football leagues, such as France and Spain. For now, the midfielders would be in the next squad for the weekend, when The Pool travel east to Sussex to face the Seagulls in Round 20 of the Premier League Season 22/23.
